Retail Energy Efficiency Scheme

The Retailer Energy Efficiency Scheme (REES) is a South Australian Government energy efficiency scheme that provides incentives for South Australian households and businesses to save energy. It does this through establishing energy efficiency and audit targets to be met by electricity and gas retailers.

South Australian households and businesses may be able to access discounted or free energy efficiency activities from energy retailers participating in the REES. Low-income households may also be able to receive an energy audit.

Participants completing this course with EIB will be awarded the qualification of CPP41119 Certificate IV in Home Energy Efficiency and Sustainability (Home Sustainability Assessment) allowing you to be a fully qualified to undertake assessment in South Australia.

This course provides the skills and knowledge required to source and analyse information on the thermal performance of existing residences. It includes providing advice on ways to improve thermal performance accounting for ownership and type of building, costs and practicalities of implementing improvement recommendations.

Aimed at individuals who work independently using specialised knowledge to complete routine and non-routine tasks and deal with predictable and sometimes unpredictable problems in sustainability practices within the home.

Who is this course for?

Home sustainability assessors provide advice to homeowners seeking to improve the efficiency, cost to run, sustainability and comfort needs of their household. They conduct on-site assessments of residences and advise on opportunities to improve comfort and to save on energy and water costs, and ways to live more sustainably in a residential environment.

This qualification provides a diverse range of skills and knowledge needed by professional assessors in conducting home sustainability assessments.

What are the quality principles?

  • Excellent customer experience. Assessors must demonstrate strong customer relationship and engagement approach and skills, delivering a positive experience for the consumer.
  • Robust assessment approach. Assessors must have a strong ability to identify home energy efficiency features in the field and accurate data entry skills, to ensure assessments accurately reflect home performance.
  • Consumer-focused energy efficiency upgrades advice. Assessors must have the skills to assess and present appropriate upgrades options, considering the needs of the household.
  • Knowledge of safety and well-being. Assessors must have the skills to protect themselves and others while working.

What are the entry requirements?

To undertake the Residential Efficiency scorecard  you are expected to:

  • Effectively read and extract information from plans, drawings and specifications for residential buildings,
  • Manage own work, professional development and ethical behaviour in a satisfactory manner,
  • Be able to use a personal computer, including basic word processing, spreadsheet, email programs and internet search engines,
  • Have a demonstrated capacity in literacy and numeracy, and
  • Have demonstrated interpersonal communication skills.

Training or RPL?

In addition, Education In Building delivers this nationally recognised Certificate IV qualification via three (3) modes, being:

  • Complete the entire course online
  • A combination of Recognition of Prior Learning and online training
  • Full recognition of prior learning (RPL)
